Doug Johnson was a hometown boy from Buchholz high school when he joined the Florida football team in 1996. Over the course of four years under center for the Gators, he saw his playing time increase each successive year under head coach Steve Spurrier.

He the Gators’ principal starter from 1997 to 2000, throwing for 7,114 yards, 62 touchdowns and 36 interceptions while completing 504 of 907 attempts. As a senior, he was selected as a team captain while playing in 11 of UF’s 13 games that season. While he helped lead a potent Florida offense during his tenure, NFL teams did not see anything special in him and Johnson went unselected in the 2000 NFL draft. However, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons as the free agent and went on to play five years in the league — four with Atlanta and one with the Tennessee Titans.

Here are photo highlights from quarterback Doug Johnson’s four years with Florida football from 1996 to 2000.
